Sony Xperia X Compact-Small Is Not Always Good [Test]

Sony tries again to squeeze the best electronics in a compact format. This year failed.

Sony as a company worthy of praise. Back in 2014, the company single-handedly went against the current trend toward ever-larger and broke with smartphones.

They launched Xperia Z1 Compact-a topmobil with smartphone with topspecifikationer squeezed into a small smartly Cabinet.

The success did not materialize is not.

Sony’s Compact-series became a fixture in URmobilpriser.dks monthly top 10 since the release, and in Denmark are Compact series Sony’s best selling series ever.

But-with Xperia X Compact modifies Sony a bit on the formula. The components are no longer taken down from the topmost shelf, and bet instead on the good compromise between price, quality and features.

An interesting bet-I wonder if the new formula fall into the Danes ‘ taste?

Neat, but tacky plastic

Sony had through the entire Z-series a flirting with noble materials such as glass and metal – a love which is now ending in Xperia X Compact. Your phone is now wrapped in plastic from end to end.

Plastic need not, however, be decidedly frugally, and X is Compact also clear that Sony has worked with the finish so that it now almost resembles porcelain – especially in the white or light blue variant.

The similarity with the pottery is, however, only skinddyb, for plastic panels sound hollow when one marks. The collections are in fact nothing to shout Hooray for: the yawn a bit here and there, which just doesn’t hold in a cell with topambitioner.

Another thing not stand for Xperia X Compact, is water. Sony’s topmobiler have otherwise long preening to be more waterproof than rivals – but now that both Samsung and Apple offers waterproof toptelefoner, is it the other way round.

Same stupid button

Sony likes to do things a little differently, which can be seen in the buttons location on the X series.Instead of having the front or rear, fingerprint reader has astutely built the company on inside the page’s power button.

It is a smart and elegant solution that works promptly, even with småfugtige fingers.

Compactens spruce dimensions in just 129 x 65 mm makes it ideal for single-handed, but this kompromiteres every time volume button should be enabled. This is stored on the most accessible place: under the Palm.

There must therefore be a part finger yoga before the buttons can be reached. Well Yes, the buttons are, moreover, both small, narrow and ugidelige. Get it now fixed, Sony.

Bright case

The exterior on Sony Xperia X Compact impresses not. Fortunately, changing the impression when the screen is switched on.

The display stretches over 4.6 inches, which exactly is big enough to give apps and websites enough elbow room. Resolution of 1280 * 720 pixels is at the low end, but the ever-sharp enough for it not to be noted in everyday life.

At the same time, screws X Compact well up both for brightness, color and contrast, so you look at it, never look boring out. As with so much else Sony-gear is the screen anyone know of bluish, but fortunately it can be adjusted on inside the settings.

We are against the soundtrack, will be the impression more mottled. Xperia X offers stereo sound with two front-facing speakers — a less rarity after hand and something that always pleases.

The joy is short-lived, for sound level can hardly drown out ordinary conversation level, making it difficult at all to hear what is being said in the movies, or podcasts.

Good performance

Another significant development in the X-series is that there is no longer necessarily processors from the topmost shelf which runs the phones. Instead it is sub-top processor Snapdragon 650 who steer the fun.

Although it does not belong to the market’s fastest, doing it in spite of everything very well, the six-kernede processor. It is accompanied with 3 GB RAM and together they run Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the apps you may have with agility and no longer art breaks.

At the same time the battery is unchanged, and together with the smaller engine running your phone now longer on deforestation. This means that you can count on a good half day use of your mobile – which places it in the better end.

The actual charging is done in a calm pace, after half an hour the battery only 29% full – the full charging takes a total of two hours.

The charging process can even be carried even slower, if Sony’s Battery Safe’ function is turned on. This left the battery more slowly up over night – and it can potentially prolong battery life with 2 to 3 years. A nice touch.

Inside the phone itself seems also to exploit that the antenna will not be dampened by a metal exterior.Even in hard-to-reach cellars there was good 4 g speeds to achieve – and almost always was at outdoor.

The good mix of performance, strong connection and long live battery makes all in all, the Sony Xperia X Compact will rarely disappoint in everyday life.

Simpler software

On the software front is however not very new to download. The launch came almost simultaneously with the launch of Google’s own Android 7.0 Nougat, but it reached Sony not to have clear from sales start.

You get the same Android Xperia X 6.0 as in spring – and it is not a silly thing.

X Compact has therefore again the larger, simpler icons, as well as the iOS-like function that makes it possible to search among its apps and history by a simple flick downward.

There is at the same time, muget out in the many bundled apps that burdened the latest Z-mobiles.Completely free of fill is not, apps like AVG Protection, Playstation, Facebook and Spotify is all as standard and can not be uninstalled. Are you using them, it will not bother-are you using them not, they’ll fill up unnecessarily.

Error-filled camera

Sony impressed last year when they showed off the first mobile 23 megapixels on board. It sounds like much and is it even – but the module was then plagued by both noise, errors in software, Unsharp optics and overheating.

It is, unfortunately, ever.

This does by no means that Sony has not finely tuned it, in the course of the year. The company has mainly used the year to improve the focus, which is now one of the best to follow moving subjects.

But that does not alter the fact that the images are blurry, to features such as HDR and Panorama is almost useless and that the error-filled and to contrast and detail are deficient.

At the same time, certain features such as RAW, 4 k-absorption and optical stabilization completely omitted.
In video mode is doing Sony better that the optics are blurry noted not in Full HD resolution, but Sony’s efficient digital stabilization, on the other hand, is effective at removing caffeine shakes and other mischief. The problem is so that the footage ends after 5-10 minutes due to overheating of the sensor.

All in all, it is depressing that Sony, despite their massive expertise in photo technology, have not yet managed to rectify their 23 megapixel-module.

It may well be possible to get good photos with the camera, but now seriously begin to distance Sony competitors on their home turf.

Only ray of hope is decidedly front camera, with a boost in resolution from 2 to 5 megapixel now takes better selfies than before. Here is the cheaper compact Xperia XA, however, equipped with an 8 megapixel better alternative.

Used to be better

With the launch of xperia X series, Sony announced that there will increasingly be listened to users when smartphone should be developed.

However, in no way mark xperia X Compact bears of that criticism from the Z5 series is noted. That is critical for the company’s mobile business unit, bleed both money and market share.

The new Compact keeps stubbornly stuck in it that blinked in Xperia Z5 and we are now far from the Xperia Z3 and its qualities at the time made it to this year’s Mobile 2014.

The price helps the nor, for although it has fallen slightly since last year, is both the Xperia Xperia X Z5 and better buy, as they both provide more phone for less money.

Sony Xperia X Compact must therefore settle for 4 out of 6 stars.
